Ever hear of an Externship? You might want to check this out!

Do you want to:
- Gain firsthand insight into the career field you are interested in?
- Identify career goals and options for yourself?
- Expand your professional network?
- Gain experience in a professional work environment?
- Identify how knowledge from the classroom applies to work environment?

Then the AMS and UBC Alumni Affairs Externship Program is the right fit for you!

What are Externships you ask? Externships are one to five day long job shadowing experiences for students to observe professionals in career fields of their interest on the job. Students are able to experience the work environment, daily tasks and responsibilities for professionals as well as ask questions and receive tips from employees in the work place. They differ from internships in that they are short term placements intended to give students information about career fields rather than to provide tangible work experience in the field.

This new program will provide Externship Placement for UBC students in year 2 and above during Reading Week 2012 (Feb. 20-25). For more information about the program and how to apply, please visit www.ams.ubc.ca/services/externship or email Kiran Mahal at internship@ams.ubc.ca. Applications are still open!
