Student Stories

University is about more than just lectures, labs, and late-night study sessions. During your time at UBC, you will have many opportunities to meet people from all over the world and experience new things, these are just a few stories of student involvement. If you would like to share your own, or recommend someone to be highlighted please visit the Student Spotlight Page for details.

Student Spotlight

Through the Student Spotlight project, the Involvement Website aims to shine the light monthly (or more!) on a variety of engaged and passionate students. First year, fourth year, grad student, it doesn’t matter. We want to hear what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, and what inspires you about it.

Check out the students we’ve profiled in the past.

Faces of Today, a Student Leadership Conference project

An initiative that showcases a collection of leaders at UBC through a series of videos shown during the SLC, the goal is to feature students who lead in innovative ways at UBC. Recognize leaders who are shaping the communities around them by having the confidence to do things differently.
The videos focus on the personal story of these leaders: a snapshot of who they are, why they lead, how they approach things from new angles, and what allows them to excel at it. Watch them now.

UBC TedX Terry Talks

Imagine some of UBC’s most fascinating and engaging students coming together for a day, giving ‘the talk of their lives,’ sharing their ideas and discussing their visions for UBC and the world. Now imagine being there, with students, alumni, faculty, administration, and members of the general public watching this unfold and partaking in the various discussions, and think of all the possibilities that this idea-share holds, this is UBC TedX Terry Talks. Videos from the last two years are posted on the Terry website. It’s a great opportunity to hear what other students are passionate about!

Go Global: Student International Learning Experiences

Whether it’s International Service Learning, Research Abroad or Exchange, UBC students are exploring the world they are a part of during their time at UBC. Considering broadening your concept of involvement beyond the Canadian border? Check out the experiences of some students who have gone abroad with the Go Global program.
